NFL Betting Preview – AFC South

The 2015/16 NFL season will be kicking off shortly and now’s a good time to take a look at all 32 teams and the eight divisions as well as the current bet365 odds of each club winning the Super Bowl. The games get underway on September 10 and the regular season wraps up next January 3. The postseason begins January 9 with the Super Bowl taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California on February 7. Bettors should remember to check team lineups before making their wagers since rosters may change before the season kicks off due to injuries.

Here’s a quick look at the AFC South, led by the Indianapolis Colts:

Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts - NFL Betting Preview - AFC South Indianapolis Colts[/caption]

  • 2014 Record: 11-5
  • Predicted 2015/16 finish: 12-4-first place
  • Odds of winning Super Bowl: 9/1
  • The Colts have the depth to take first place in their division with some good player moves in the offseason such as acquiring Kendall Langford from the St. Louis Rams. Third-round draft choice Henry Anderson of Stanford may also be ready to play. The defense has been strengthened and quarterback Andrew Luck should appreciate the acquisition of veterans Frank Gore and Andre Johnson. Fans should look forward to seeing outside linebacker Jonathan Newsome have another fine season and lead the team in sacks again. If the Colts can defend the run a bit better this year, then they should have another good season.

Key newcomers:

  • Todd Herremans (guard)
  • Andre Johnson (wide receiver)
  • Nate Irving (inside linebacker)
  • Trent Cole (outside linebacker)
  • Vincent Brown (wide receiver)
  • Frank Gore (running back)
  • Kendall Langford (defensive tackle)
  • Dwight Lowery (free safety)

Key losses:

  • LaRon Landry (safety)
  • Sergio Brown (strong safety)
  • Hakeem Nicks (wide receiver)
  • Josh Gordy (cornerback)
  • Trent Richardson (running back)
  • Cory Redding (defensive end)
  • AQ Shipley (center)
  • Ricky Jean Francois (defensive tackle)
  • Josh Cribbs (returner)
  • Shaun Phillips (linebacker)

Houston Texans

Houston Texans - NFL Betting Preview - AFC South

  • 2014 Record: 9-7
  • Predicted 2015/16 finish: 10-6-second place
  • Odds of winning Super Bowl: 66/1
  • The Texans will miss wide receiver Andre Johnson, but DeAndre Hopkins should be able to help ease the pain. He can’t do it all on his own though and free agent Cecil Shorts from Jacksonville could be the answer if he remains injury-free. Other receivers include veteran Nate Washington, Keshawn Martin and rookie Jaelen Strong of Arizona State. They lost Arian Foster for part of the season due to a groin injury and will turn to Alfred Blue until Foster is healthy. The tight end group needs to improve and there’s a battle for the starting quarterback position between Ryan Mallett and newcomer Brian Hoyer. Houston has one of the league’s best defenses and one of the NFL’s top stars in JJ Watt. Look for third-year defensive end Jared Crick to have a good season as he’s scheduled to become a free agent next year.

Key newcomers:

  • Kevin Johnson (cornerback)
  • Vince Wilfork (nose tackle)
  • Cecil Shorts (wide receiver)
  • Brian Hoyer (quarterback)
  • Nate Washington (wide receiver)
  • Brandon Deaderick (defensive tackle)
  • Rahim Moore (free safety)
  • Stevie Brown (strong safety)

Key losses:

  • Brooks Reed (outside linebacker)
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick (quarterback)
  • Case Keenum (quarterback)
  • Andre Johnson (wide receiver)
  • Jerrell Powe (nose tackle)
  • Kendrick Lewis (free safety)

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars - NFL Betting Preview - AFC South

  • 2014 Record: 3-13
  • Predicted 2015/16 finish: 5-11-third place
  • Odds of winning Super Bowl: 175/1
  • The Jaguars rushing game needs improving to help out quarterback Blake Bortles. The Jaguars selected running back T.J. Yeldon of Alabama in this year’s draft to play alongside Denard Robinson. Free-agent veteran signings Jermey Parnell and Stefen Wisniewski will add some much-needed experience to the club’s offensive line, which will be handled by newcomer Doug Marrone. Fans will need to be patient with this relatively young squad as it could develop into a playoff team in the future, but not this year. Look for QB Bortles to have a much-improved year. The team needs to get off to a decent start though or they could collapse.

Key newcomers:

  • TJ Yeldon (running back)
  • Sergio Brown (strong safety)
  • Julius Thomas (tight end)
  • Dan Skuta (outside linebacker)
  • Stefan Wisniewski (center)
  • Bryan Walters (wide receiver)
  • Jeremy Parnell (tackle)
  • Davon House (cornerback)
  • Dante Fowler Jr. (outside linebacker)

Key losses:

  • Red Bryant (defensive end)
  • Alan Ball (cornerback)
  • Cecil Shorts (wide receiver)
  • Will Blackmon (cornerback)
  • Teddy Williams (cornerback)
  • JT Thomas (outside linebacker)

Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans - NFL Betting Preview - AFC South

  • 2014 Record: 2-14
  • Predicted 2015/16 finish: 4-12-fourth place
  • Odds of winning Super Bowl: 150/1
  • The Titans made a lot of offseason roster moves following a brutal 2-14 season in 2014. The club looks stronger at cornerback this year, but Brandon Harris suffered a torn ACL in the offseason. They could get some help via the waiver wire though. Marcus Mariota was chosen second overall in this year’s draft and should start the season at quarterback. Running back Bishop Sankey should improve in his second season and free-agent outside linebacker Brian Orakpo adds some depth. Fans should expect to see running back Bishop Sankey step up this year with a better offensive line in place. Tennessee should hit at least four wins this year, or there could be a head-coaching change with Ken Wisenhunt being shown the door.

Key newcomers:

  • Anthony Fasano (tight end)
  • Hakeem Nicks (wide receiver)
  • Perrish Cox (cornerback)
  • Brian Orakpo (outside linebacker)
  • Byron Bell (tackle)
  • Dorial Green-Beckham (wide receiver)
  • Marcus Mariota (quarterback)

Key losses:

  • Eric Olsen (center)
  • Michael Oher (tackle)
  • Nate Washington (wide receiver)
  • Jake Locker (quarterback)
  • Bernard Pollard (strong safety)
  • Shonn Greene (running back)
  • Colin McCarthy (inside linebacker)
  • Quentin Groves (outside linebacker)
  • Michael Roos (tackle)
  • Will Svitek (tackle)
  • Chris Spencer (guard)
  • George Wilson (safety)
